L’Arquemuse is a musical training center whose primary aim is to democratize and promote music; to introduce students to the basic fundamentals of music, whatever their age; to prepare them for a possible professional career in the field; and, finally, to provide them with a means of expression through music, with a view to maintaining physical, psychological and/or social balance.

Located in the heart of the Saint-Roch district, the Arquemuse concert hall offers excellent acoustics, a Boston Steinway grand piano and a capacity of 150.

Hear two great Quebec musicians in a wonderful repertoire for solo piano. You will hear Bach, Chopin and Scriabine among others.

Tristan Longval-Gagné
The Sherbrooke pianist Tristan Longval-Gagné is appreciated as a recitalist, chamber musician and educator. Tristan was educated at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University with Sara Laimon, Kyoko Hashimoto, and Anton Kuerti, before perfecting at the Juilliard School of Music in New York under Julian Martin. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the first prize of the OSM Standard Life competition, the Prix d’Europe, the Canadian Music Competition and the Tremplin International.

Julien Gagné
Student of Richard Raymond at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, Julien Gagné, 20, has distinguished himself in several national and provincial competitions. In 2022, he stood out in many competitions: he obtained a first place at Cégeps en Concert, a place in the final at the Festival-Concours de Musique Classique in Sorel-Tracy, the grand prize among the 15-year-olds18 years in the Classival competition and a first place in the 18-year-old pianists in the Canadian Music Competition. He also performed with the Orchestre symphonique des jeunes de Sherbrooke in 2022 and with the Orchestre de l’Université de Sherbrooke in 2023.

Come and discover Rachmaninoff and Prokofieff with the young pianist and rising star Emmanuel Laforest.

Emmanuel has won several prizes, such as the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition, the Conservatoire de Montréal Foundation Award for the best pianist aged 25 and under, as well as the first prize in the Conservatoire de Montréal concerto competition, the grand prize of the Capital Music Competition (Quebec), solo AND concerto component, the grand prize of the Valleyfield Classival Competition, the second grand prize at the Auguste Descarries Piano Competition, the 2nd grand prize in the Sherbrooke competition and the second grand prize in the Sorel competition.

Hugo Laporte

Baritone Hugo Laporte has won several competitions, including the Belvedere Competition in Austria and the OSM Competition in Canada. With more than 25 leading roles to his credit, he stands out in roles such as Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Marcello (La Bohème), and Escamillo (Carmen). He regularly collaborates with major Quebec operas, orchestras, ensembles and festivals. Internationally, he has performed in France, Italy, Germany, Russia, China and Belarus.

On record, it can be heard in the Intégrale des mélodies pour voix et piano by Jules Massenet (ATMA Classique, 2022)

Jean-François Mailloux

Jean-François Mailloux holds a BA in Piano Performance and three Masters in Interpretation from the Faculty of Music at Université Laval (solo piano, piano accompaniment and classical singing), and is a collaborative pianist for singing classes, strings, brass and is a singing conductor for the Opera Stage Acting class at the FaMUL. He also works on multiple lyric projects with his accomplice Jean-Philippe Lavoie, with whom he has directed Productions Cont’opéra since September 2023, an organization whose mission is to introduce opera in a playful way through creations.

Come and experience a great musical moment with Stephan Sylvestre! You will have the immense pleasure of hearing Schumann’s Fantasy.

Acclaimed for his magical sound and his constant desire to go to the heart of the work (Le Droit, Ottawa), for his absolute control of the keyboard and a natural passion reminiscent of that of Artur Rubinstein (La Presse), Stéphan Sylvestre is one of the most important Canadian pianists of the new generation. Recipient of the prestigious Prix d’Europe, he leads an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and educator and has performed in Canada, the United States, Europe, the Middle East, South America and Asia, in the most famous halls such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Place des Arts and the National Arts Centre. He has collaborated with many world-renowned musicians and has been compared to Murray Perahia (WholeNote) for his recording of the late full work for solo piano by composer Johannes Brahms.

The Great Romantics

This concert will be a historic moment with André Laplante and his wonderful interpretation of Liszt’s sonata in so minor!

Quebec pianist André Laplante is rightly considered one of today’s great romantic virtuosos. In the wake of his silver medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow, he performed on stages around the world with the most renowned orchestras. As a guest soloist, he has toured extensively in Europe and across North America. André Laplante has several albums to his credit, devoted in particular to the music of Ravel (nomination, Juno Award, 1992), Liszt (Félix Prize, 1995), Brahms (Félix Prize, 1996) and Rachmaninov. More recently, he recorded a masterful performance of Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec.
