A few years ago, they combined their talents to form the Phaeton Piano Trio and have been exploring the ensemble&#8217;s rich repertoire ever since. The Trio has been invited to perform in various countries, including Germany, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, they made their South American debut in Santiago de Chile. The melodic and expressive-sounding saxophones combine with the orchestral fullness of a piano to create a listening experience of the highest quality. The quintet was founded by Quebec native Daniel Gauthier, currently the only professor for classical saxophone in Germany (Hochschule f\u00fcr Musik, Cologne) and the ensemble\u2018s leader and soprano. He is joined by three of today\u2019s best soloists on saxophone: Miguel Valles Mateu, alto; Simon Hamrath, tenor; and Sebastian Pottmeier, baritone. In 2023, the Phaeton Piano Trio began recording piano trios by Saint-Saens, Faur\u00e9, and Hur\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis intensity fascinated from the very start. Every bow attack, every caesura, the formation of every tone along with the dialogue-like ensemble between violin and cello, and the pearl-like ease of the piano, all contributed to the impression that the trio not only shone as brilliant soloists, but that they joined to present an organic \u201csound body\u201d. The sonata replaced the old consort of violes, the basso continuo became indispensable, the violin had its first virtuosos\u2014they came from overseas, of course\u2014and Charles II established a 24-string orchestra to play various dances in the French manner. The \u2018Merry Monarch\u2019 also maintained a \u2018private musick\u2019, a chamber ensemble that played for his pleasure. But despite these strong influences, English music in the second half of the 17th century developed its unique spin, an expressiveness and harmonic daring which were all its own\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1991 by Francis Colpron, Les Bor\u00e9ades is an ensemble specializing in the Baroque repertoire, performed on period instruments according to historical performance practices.
