Salov, originally from Ukraine, moved to Canada after winning the 2004 Montreal International Music Competition. In jazz, the saxophone has allowed musicians to express their individuality, and that is why the raucous sounds and the hum of the instrument contribute to the texture of the music. In classical music, the musician usually prefers an instrument with a clear and finely controlled sound, whose precision is similar to that of the clarinet.<\/p>\n<p>With the musical support of a trio led by the virtuoso Samuel Blais, as comfortable in jazz as in the repertoire of classical music, and as brilliant on the saxophones of various registers, the writer and music lover Stanley P\u00e9an traces the evolution of Coleman Hawkins&#8217; instrument to his contemporary disciples, going through all the stylistic variations of jazz.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>About the speaker<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nIt was the sound of the trumpet that put host and writer Stanley P\u00e9an on his way to the blue note as a teenager. As a member of the first edition of the University of Montreal and McGill Vocal Accompaniment Residency, he had the opportunity to study with some of the world\u2019s most prominent pianists in the vocal music field, including Graham Johnson, James Vaughan, Jeff Cohen and John Churchwell. After his residency, Christopher worked as a vocal coach and accompanist at McGill University, performing and playing for auditions, competitions and other concerts in Montreal, New York and Vancouver. He and his duo partner, Jingjing Xu, have successfully participated in the Neue Stimmen and Mirjam Helin competitions, and have given recitals in Montreal, Vancouver, Vienna and Helsinki. Elisabeth St-Gelais is the grand winner of McGill University\u2019s prestigious Wirth Vocal Prize in March 2022, of the Grand Prix 19-30 years at the Canimex Canada Music Competition in June 2022 and she is named the same year in the prestigious #CBC30under30 list 2022 where she stands out as a prominent indigenous lyric artist under the 30-year bar. She is the winner of the First Prize 26-30 years at the Classival Festival in April 2023. Elisabeth St-Gelais wins the Prix d&#8217;Europe 2023 on 11 June of that year at the Conservatoire de musique de Montr\u00e9al and is the winner of the First Prize and the Public\u2019s Choice in the annual competition of the Canadian Opera Company, CentreStage Competition edition 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"\" data-index=\"2\">In November 2023 she is the winner of the District Western Canada as well as NORTHWEST Regionals Encouragement Award Winner in the MET OPERA LAFFONT COMPETITION. Also involved in her Montreal musical community, the soprano has been appointed to the board of directors of the Conseil Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la Musique since April 2023.
