Église Trinity United Church, 190 rue Principale Ouest

The Espace culturel Cookshire-Eaton welcomes the Trio de l’Île for a concert titled Origines, whose program highlights the long-standing bond that unites the three musicians of the Trio de l’Île. While music is the foundation of this bond, Quebec serves as their meeting point, and friendship is what anchors it.
The concert will feature Sergei Rachmaninoff’s famous Elegiac Trio No. 2; Rachmaninoff shares the same nationality as the Trio’s violinist, Uliana Drugova. An inexhaustible source of inspiration, Sergei Rachmaninoff directly influenced Arno Babadjanian and André Mathieu, two other composers featured in the program.
In the eyes of the Trio’s pianist, Patil Harboyan, of Armenian origin, the trios by Arno Babadjanian and Gayane Chebotaryan bear witness to the history of a very ancient people, whose folklore is imbued with melancholy and drama, but also with a contagious joie de vivre.
For cellist Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy, André Mathieu’s music, full of contrasts, draws its individuality from a multitude of musical currents from here and elsewhere. Quebec will thus be represented by André Mathieu, an icon of the 1950s, but also by a work composed in 2023 by the Trio’s cellist, Dominique Beauséjour-Ostiguy himself.
Celebrating the Trio members’ identities as musicians, but also as an ensemble, Origines offers a true journey to the heart of their musical roots.
