Ensemble Scholastica – Le jardin des miracles

Centre Saint-Romuald, 500, rue Saint-Hilaire, Farnham

The vocal and instrumental ensemble Scholastica immerses us in the planant and meditative music of the composer Hildegarde von Bingen, who continues to inspire souls almost a millennium after her birth. A meeting not to be missed with this music of great depth.

Ensemble Scholastica will perform songs from medieval Iberia, a territory first marked by Muslim influence, especially in the field of arts and architecture, then during the thirteenth century, by the enlightened reign of Alfonso X, known as «Le Sage», King of Castile and León. The Cantigas de Santa Maria, compiled under the auspices of Alfonso X, is one of the largest collections of medieval vernacular songs. The collection has more than 400 cantigas, all dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which tell of miracles concerning her faithful, sometimes amazing, often fantastic miracles, ranging from tragic to entertaining.

Dialogues – piano & cello

Centre Saint-Romuald, 500, rue Saint-Hilaire, Farnham

A few days before their performance at New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall, cellist Noémie Raymond and pianist Zhenni Li-Cohen honor us with a visit to Farnham, in a spellbinding post-romantic and modern repertoire.

This concert explores the duality of two titanic masterpieces for cello and piano, from the pen of a woman and a man born thirteen years apart, Rachmaninov and Clarke, both virtuosic instrumentalists but with surprisingly distinct musical voices. Centred on works dear to the musicians, it is a bridge between two worlds, a conversation between two instruments and two composers, a dialogue between artists and the public.

At this concert, we will also hear a brand new creation by the Quebec composer Christian Thomas.

Ciné-concert et orgue : Le fantôme de l’opéra

Centre Saint-Romuald, 500, rue Saint-Hilaire

After the success of Nosferatu on Halloween 2024, the Vaisseau d’art revisits a 1925 masterpiece that celebrates its 100th anniversary, The Phantom of the Opera, for Halloween. Between love and terror, Guillaume Martineau will improvise a phantasmagorical soundtrack on the Casavant Organ of the Saint-Romuald Church.

Christine Daaé, a budding young opera singer (Mary Philbin), discovers that she has a mysterious admirer who wants to help her become a great artist. This masked man is Erik, also known as the Ghost (Lon Chaney), a horribly disfigured recluse who lives under the Paris Opera. Trio Yuki Isami – Musique traditionnelle japonaise

Centre Saint-Romuald, 500, rue Saint-Hilaire

After more than 20 years working with Quebec symphony orchestras, member of the Orchestre symphonique de Drummondville and the Orchestre symphonique de Saguenay and winner of the 2022 Félix for Album of the Year – Other languages with the group Teke::Teke, Yuki Isami presents an album exploring the evolution of Japanese music in contact with the West. Going from traditional music to contemporary music, passing through the classical period and its Western composers having been influenced by Japanese culture, the album proves to be as much a journey from East to West as it is a temporal musical journey.

Accompanied by the pianist Natsuki Hiratsuka and the percussionist Patrick Graham, Yuki Isami transports us on the sounds of his transverse flute, but also with his traditional Japanese instruments such as shinobue, koto and shamisen. The pieces are revisited so that the album Rives becomes a discussion between the contributions of the past and the renewal of the present.

La Otra Orilla – Rite

Centre Saint-Romuald, 500, rue Saint-Hilaire

With this explosive and visceral show, La Otra Orilla makes a clean sweep and returns to the foundations of flamenco art. Rite is the symbiosis of body, voice, guitar, percussion, four artists at their peak: Myriam Allard, Hedi Graja, Caroline Planté and Miguel Medina. An intimate conversation within which each person expresses themselves at the same time as they speak the other’s words. Rite is the bitterness, strength and captivating beauty of a ritual where public and artists come into communion: Chord of hearts, breaths, souls, flamenco when it touches the sacred.
