Le Vitrail – Espace culturel is located in Thetford Mines in Chaudière-Appalaches. Its mission is to present and provide access to a variety of forms of arts and culture. The organization offers access to a unique gathering place for the community. It also gives priority to emerging and/or local artists. The organization ensures the valorization of a distinctive building with a unique architecture.
Until the termination of religious celebrations in 2019, the former Sainte-Marthe Church, built in 1963, was a gathering place for the community. It was a space where people took a pause to experience a moment of recollection and replenishment. With its amphitheatre-like interior, Le Vitrail – Espace culturel unites the stage and the audience. The music-loving architect Paul-André Caouette studied volumes and materials in order to offer remarkable acoustics with its luminous stained-glass windows.
From the very first season in 2020, the richness of this unique acoustic was clearly displayed during the concert of harpist Valérie Milot and cellist Stéphane Tétreault. Since then, a program of Sunday afternoon classical music, as well as a variety of shows, are presented from September to June.
Espace culturel Le Vitrail wishes to promote the cultural and artistic diversity of its milieu and offer high quality concerts to the community and to visitors.
Stay tuned for the 2024-2025 concert season!

Le Vitrail, 1254 rue Ste-Marthe, Thetford Mines
Mathieu David Gagnon has long worked in the shadow of remarkable projects as an arranger, orchestrator, musical director and director. While continuing to juggle the projects of others, he secretly followed a personal inspiration and, after several months of work, finally unveiled his work, Flore Laurentienne, Vol. 1. It is difficult to describe this project in a few words. This strangely natural marriage between the string orchestra and the synthesizers of the 60s and 70s is expressed in eight pieces, which transport us sometimes on the river road, sometimes in a memory. It is an awakening to beauty and above all, an invitation to contemplation.

Jean-Michel Dubé, piano
This commented concert features works by Shubert, Brahms, Liszt and Quebec composer André Mathieu. In addition, you will have the pleasure of hearing a work rarely performed, Blumenfeld’s Étude op. 36 pour la main gauche seule.
Here’s what they say: “this little-known Russian pianist composer combines the influence of Chopin and Tchaikovsky. Jean-Michel Dubé demonstrated a technical feat without measurement. He uses the full width of the piano and draws incredible colors from it with his only left hand. It is enough to impress the public and to test the technique of the interpreter. Hats off! It was remarkable.”

The Luce e Ombra project, «Lumière et Ombre», brings together opera excerpts, a cantata and instrumental pieces by the famous Venetian composer Antonio Vivaldi. These works of remarkable beauty are somewhat in his image, all in contrasts: chiaroscuro, sadness-cheerfulness, exuberant despair-joy, all sprinkled with the characteristic strangeness that pleasantly spice up his writing.

Images oubliées
Le Vitrail, 1254 Ste-Marthe, Thetford Mines
Through a unique and thematic concert, cellist Stéphane Tétreault and pianist Olivier Hébert-Bouchard offer you a musical retrospective on the life of Claude Debussy!
By transforming the «soloist» aspect of these works into a conception for two instruments in dialogue, the language of Debussy’s sounds resonates differently, sometimes more intimate, sometimes more grandiose, but always with the intention of creating a strong link with the audience. The evocative power of these compositions is inevitably altered, since they now tell their story but also that of the two musicians who transmit them.
